Diary of a Personal Trainer. A regular look at Gym Life.

Hi Team!

Every week (unless exceptionally busy), I will be sharing my thoughts with you on the week I have had at the gym, my classes, Running Club or one to one training with clients as a Personal Trainer.

Every week I wonder what on earth I’m going to write about too! And as I scan past the week that was, something always comes up. And I guess that is the beauty of my work – each client brings me fresh input, and each experience yields a new learning process.  The huge range of subjects I deal with means there is always more to challenge me, and the diversity of personalities I meet at the gym mean life is never boring.

Unlike running a pub, say (and I have done that too!), where you can often deal with people at their very worst (!), I tend to meet the best, working towards their best, and this common denominator holds us strong. Who could ask for more?

Obviously – it is not all sweetness and light. A lot of what I do is repetitive (and needs to be for health and safety reasons), and I do lose clients. I have had frustrating experiences and the hours are very long indeed.

But that is what I want to share with you too! How do I constantly improve my retention rates? What strategies do I put in place to prevent burn out? (of self as well as over zealous clients!), how do we get over the fact that boredom can set in (for self as well as clients!).

The gym can be like hosting a very long party – but it doesn’t end in the kitchen!!

So – click for this week’s instalment and then we’ve assorted the weeks into subject matter, so you can home in on whatever lights your particular candle. Enjoy!
