Aerobics: 'Quad Squad' and Freestlye Pilates

Ok – you’ve clicked on this box, presumably because you’d like to get fit. Do you know what type of fitness you best need?aerobics

A lot depends on what you already do, and current fitness levels, and also what you enjoy!

For example, if you are a cardio vascular bunny you may well need an antidote like my Freestyle Pilates class. A newcomer to fitness should enjoy both Pilates and Aerobics but keep it 'low' for now.

One of my long term gym members would definitely benefit from Aerobics on a Wednesday night, and let rip!The gym cannot provide the laterally moving, plyometric (explosive power) base this session can; it will really bring on their fitness in leaps and bounds (literally!).

I’ll explain briefly what each one is like:

Freestyle Pilates:

Seeking strong and long limbs working away from a solid, balanced core (tummy and back)

It is suitable for all levels and abilities – ladies only and gents - all ages.

Freestyle because as a trained Exercise to Music (Royal Society of the Arts), instructor with years of experience we can add our own flavour to the class whilst still respecting the principles of Pilates himself.

For me I like to link it into the Body Conditioning elements of my classes, mixing in traditional Pilates recognised exercises. I also lengthen out the muscles as we progress, with lots of flexibility work. In addition I constantly play with different planes of movement. This gives me a huge repertoire to work with, so no two classes are ever the same. Pilates

I personally adore teaching this way as I have all the time in the world to give out teaching points, and make it meaningful. My biggest joy, I suppose, is that I am very intent on asking my clients to make the bridge between the class and real life, transferring what we do there onto the street and home/work life. I have even done ‘Freestyle Pilates Circuits’ classes where the stations might be:

1/ driving a car (the steering wheel is a great core workout, if you use it wisely)   2/ picking up a heavy object (safely)    3/ reaching into a cupboard (with grace!)   4/ walking down the road, stepping over a high pavement etc!! I often say you can get a workout to challenge the ‘core’ (tummy and back), all day…. if you remain mindful of it in the first place.

So, an interesting session with lots of questions and feedback from my clients.

Lastly – I sometimes follow this (time permitting), with a free muscle assessment, noting the results for my clients. This adds valuable insights for them, meaning they can then work on their known imbalances, should we find them, as we go.

Aerobics on a Wednesday Hay.

Aerobics - is to change to a ''QUAD SQUAD''class!! This means 4 distinct sections, with 4 different CD's. Comprising: 25 mins of Aerobics for all levels,(for heart, lungs and weight loss)  10 mins of Equipment based Body Conditioning, (for the ultimate boost in Fat Loss), 20 mins  Freestyle Pilates (the best of F/W Pilates) - for the flattest tummy, strongest back, and toned limbs, then a big CHILL at the end for brilliant flexability gains with a big relaxation element at the end. Remember, all my classes are multi levelled, so if this sounds a bit scarey - don't be! (see low impact, below)

I have ladies in their 60’s (I know they won’t mind me stating this!) – but you really are only as old as you feel – they are living testament to the oft quoted fact that their generation are getting younger – AND they feel the beat and love the music. All welcome to this friendly, inspiring class. My personal favourite.

Low impact Aerobics You can do my Aerobics session this way!

Simply keep one foot in contact with the floor, (no jumping), this makes it suitable for all, even entry level

I tell you what though – my biggest surprise with this is you can still sweat!! So, low impact, but if you want to 'jump' as you get fitter- you can go ahead. I will also offer different levels with the body conditioning, and F/S Pilates. Its a case of 'stick or twist', you can stop where you want to.

So c'mon Hay On Wye Gals. At least give these classes a try. I have so many positive comments from them, you could at least do one session! You'll be amazed at the changes they will make to your mind, body and soul. Get yourself some 'me' time (that's what got my interest in the first place!). Go into the zone and enjoy!

Although every effort is made to update changes, in all class/session cases, please call the gym to confirm times and locations. These are subject to constant seasonal changes that may not yet be reflected on the site.
